What is International Friendship Day?
The United Nations General Assembly (U.N.) declared July 30th as the International Day of Friendship or best friends day with the belief that happy friendship among individuals, nations, ethnicities, and personalities can encourage peaceful initiatives and make connections between people. The declaration emphasises the need of incorporating youths as potential leaders in communal programs that enhance international knowledge and respect for cultural diversity.
On this day, we take a moment to reflect and be grateful for celebrating friendship that encourages and enhance tranquillity, contentment, and togetherness around the world. The U.N. invites authorities, community organizations, and other entities to plan programs and experiences to honour the happy friendship we cherish. Many events are centred on healing, establishing empathy and understanding, and seeking comfort in friendships that felt like family.
Why Do We Celebrate Friendship?
Best friends day is something to be celebrated because it is one of the most important relationships we will have in our lives. Happy friendship provides us with comfort, support, and laughter. They help us get through tough times and celebrate the good times. Good friends are hard to come by, so when we find them, it is important to cherish and nurture those relationships.
How to Celebrate Best Friends Day?
There are many ways on celebrating friendship. Here are a few ideas:
1. Reach out to your friends and let them know how much they mean to you. A simple phone call, text message, email or social media post can go a long way.
2. Get together with your friends and do something fun. Go for a hike, have a picnic, go to the beach or just spend time chatting and catching up.
3. Make a difference in your community by volunteering with a friend. There are many organizations that could use some extra help. Spend some time giving back and making new friends at the same time.
4. Use social media to spread love. Post a photo of you and your friends and use the hashtag #InternationalFriendshipDay.
